Today’s Leadership Spill achieved nor decided anything

The ALP again demonstrated today just how lost and shambolic they really are – to call for a spill and then not have anyone challenge for the Leadership is a claytons spin on a new low an ALP political history.

The result of the days events are simple – Gillard is further weakened by association and any spin her supporters are advocating is pure bullshit.  For example – Stephen Smith who only a few weeks ago and when on air covering the WA election result made comment about the Federal impact on the WA election.  He suggested it was a leadership issue, yet today he spoke to the media after the spill that was the reverse of what he stated a few weeks ago.

It has been wall to wall coverage in the media since Crean made his plea and nominated himself for Deputy Prime Minister under Rudd.   Crean was trying to force Rudd’s hand and this speaks volumes for Crean’s political ability and timing.   He tried to shoot himself several times – and still only did minimal damage. He looked a forlorn figure as he exited the caucus meeting this afternoon knowing his political career was over … he will be resigning his Ministerial portfolio and even Rudd will think twice about how close he wants to be to Crean in any future Leadership role.

In true dumbass terms – today’s spill was a no brainer … anyone who says otherwise have not a clue as to what is really happening and going on in the background.

However the media spin the afternoons events and fill the airwaves, the common sense answer is simple.    Crean though he had a shot at becoming the Deputy PM – he decided to force Rudd’s hand … and Rudd held his position in the face of his supporters trying to convince him to make the challenge.

He had the numbers, but they were just enough and the victory would have resolved little.

Rudd will be the PM before the election – it is the timing and when you look to Gillard and her leadership woe’s ahead, why would Rudd want to take on all Gillards mistakes and those of her supporters only to have the Unions do him in again once he had balanced some of the ALP support he carries.

In the next few months the following events are due and will have their media cycle and add to the negativity aligned with the Gillard Leadership:

  1. The Slipper decision on whether he resigns or goes to court – that is all Gillard …
  2. The Craig Thompson court case begins … again all owned by Gillard’s  …
  3. The ICAC findings on the Obeid hearings are due in June/July – in the interim MacDonald is again facing a new ICAC inquiry over a different mining lease approval and the damaging fallout is all on Gillard’s Leadership.
  4. The MRRT revamped under the Gillard/Swan team, and used in part to get rid of Rudd because the miners did not like the Rudd version – is ongoing and the May Budget will have to reassess the revenues and the impact on the budget bottom line … Gillard and Swan own this debacle of legislation …
  5. The fallout over the Roxon anti-discrimination capitulation is all Gillard … it will have its media cycle in coming days …
  6. As will the failed media legislation and the trigger for all of today’s events after Conroy pulled the Bills because he did not have the numbers … again all Gillard … just bad legislation after bad legislation …
  7. Then there is the proposed Gonski and NDIS reforms and the funding promises – again all Gillard and when the May Budget cuts to provide for both these policies, some $16 billion come to light, the negatives will again cut into the ALP primary support.

When was the last time that Gillard got a big ticket policy right …

Why would Rudd want the Leadership when all these events will reflect on Gillard … he does not want to own the fallout … why would he?

Rudd will only think about a leadership move when he has a mandate along the following lines:

  1. A Royal Commission into the AWU scandal and directly aimed at Gillard with a want to strip her of her parliamentary pension if she is found to be involved in the events that led to the fraud.  This will allow Rudd to make an enemy of Gillard and win back all the ALP voters on the fence over the Gillard involvement in this scandal.
  2. A Royal Commission into the HSU with the same outcome expectations …
  3. A Royal Commission into all Unions and their accountability standards and use of ‘slush funds’ …
  4. An ALP mandate to crush the Union factions and their influence on the Parliamentary Party and its process’ …
  5.  A policy platform that addresses the Gillard overspend and caps future big-ticket spending until the budget is balanced and debt reduction is possible.

The equation is simple – the people may want Rudd, but until the Caucus gives him what he wants – ‘overwhelming numbers’ to use his words – he will let Gillard continue to destroy the ALP.  In essence the caucus are unwilling to commit and are living in fear of becoming unemployed.  This opinion is obvious … why should Rudd commit when the Caucus that dumped him twice are unwilling to commit …

Gillard is forthright and punches up Abbott every time they have a stoush – but her ability to formulate policy and understand the financial impost her policy’s have imposed on Australians renders her a maverick lunatic … her misandry is worse than any misogyny levied against her.

There is an opinion that it is not the ALP that is on the nose – it is Gillard … and Gillard is oblivious to how she has paralysed a Nation …

Those who support Rudd know what lies ahead – there just is not enough for him to move at this stage … give it a few more sub 30 poll results and the shift will happen.

Larry Pickering’s Political Take:

To bring some much-needed levity – there is always the Larry Pickering Cartoons … below is a sample of his summer offerings – his images page can be access here[click on image below to enlarge] … enjoy and don’t hurt yourself with the belly laughs …

Larry Pickering also writes some very intelligent blogs including many on the AWU scandal.  Whilst not as regarded as Hedley Thomas in journalistic circles – his penmanship and his heady wit give him a take on things not easily publishable in mainstream media.  None the less … his take on events cuts to the chase and he does not mince words … his Facebook page can be accessed here

You say she ‘punches up Abbott’ every time they have a stoush, that appears to be the case but in fact I don’t think it is the case now. The public are seeing through her for what she is. His problem is he is the ‘old fashioned gentleman’ and doesn’t hit back at her on a personal basis. Personally I think he should call her out for what she is,…..a slapper…..she behaves like trailer trash.

  2. March 21, 2013 at 7:10 pm

Don’t disagree with the ‘slapper’ characterisation … but Abbott likes to counter punch … to become a Leader he needs to lead rather than wait and measure his response … mind you he is headed for a massive landslide victory and he does not really have to do much.

Abbotts biggest worry is a Rudd comeback – and then he will be forced out of his comfort zone and Turnbull will be waiting …

There is a lot still to happen and it promises’ to be action packed … the media are incapable of keeping their heads and will spray their garble like whores walking up and down Oxford Street …

The issue will come to a head when Abbott has to pad up and walk to the middle after having been so far in front for so long – whether he does the first ball duck after sitting in the pravillion for so long will be the question …

  3. March 21, 2013 at 7:11 pm

Of recent days I have been thinking this government should be called something akin to a flapper. Loud, unabashed, and flaps in the wind on trends, polls (public opinions) and fashions. Of no fixed opinion or substance, just needing to be loved.

The trouble is it could be considered misogynist. Simply because the leader is of the feminine gender.

  4. March 21, 2013 at 10:53 pm

Watching Lateline and Tony Smith is a dumb fuck and media whore …

Crean was one of the Gillard supporters that gave Rudd a spray 12 months ago in the aftermath of the spill back then … Gillard flushed Rudd out then when he was overseas and it’s an each-way bet that Crean was the sacrificial lamb to fklush Rudd out again …

This ain’t over by a longshot and to talk and lead the public on this old and tried dance is an example of a ALP press trying to bury Rudd when Rudd supporters won;y go back to Gillard despite what the rhetoric is all about …

This is still a pathetic Government and the Rudd distraction from Gillards perspective gets the media laws failure off the front page … god if only these media whores would think and look up rather then behind …

  5. March 21, 2013 at 10:58 pm

    Agree Harry,

A Rudd/Abbott Leadership hands the poll momentum backto the ALP in the short term … blind freddy can see that bump …

The contest from there is a new ballgame … Rudd is playing his game and will not be bullied again and the media will again troll behind … nobody knows how to get ahead of a story anymore …
