EYE-BALL’s Snoop-Poop on – Australian Open Tennis Prizemoney Breakdown …

Title:
Australian Open Tennis –
The Prize money Breakdown
The Australian Open Tennis is a world class event – one of the Majors in the ‘Grand Slam’ quartet.   I enjoy the tennis when watching contested matches.  In the men’s draw upsets can happen from Round 1 all the way through.

The prize money breakdown – as posted below and copied from the Australian Tennis Open website– is for both women and men.   It is not political correct to bag women’s tennis – but if you are like me the first week of the women’s draw ain’t worth a pinch of crap – the results are predictable – 6-0 6-0 is often the score.   Even 1st round losers in the Women’s draw get $20k – and in the second week when the matches are still hard to watch – the losers in the 4th round get to keep $109k.

PRIZE Money for Australian Open 2012 Men’s and Women’s Singles
1st Round $20,000
2nd Round $33,300
3rd Round $54,625
4th Round $109,250
Quarter finalist $218,500
Semi finalist $437,000
Runners-up $1,150,000
Winners $2,300,000

The women’s matches struggle to get past the hour or so and when men slug it out for  three + hours – for the same money – this equality of pay thing has gone too far.   TV ratings prefer mens matches – viewers prefer mens matches – they’re real contests and you have to get to the semis before women’s tennis becomes entertaining outside of the eye-candy appeal.

How they ever became equal earners is a mystery – around the time of Navratilova is my best guess …

Common – the winner of the Woman’s final gets $2.3 million – the runner-up $1.15 million – and I want change … if the men are worth the same value – in my book the women aren’t worth half as much – not even a third …

Take advertising dollars on telecast of womans matches – unless their paying twice as much as they are for mens matches how can they hope to earn the same revenue …

This is ridiculous and to continue to pay these women parading as fashion ornaments to sell women’s clothing and accessories – how can they be taken seriously.

The men need to boycott a Slam to make the point – without the Men the advertises would bolt – the individual WTA does not stack up against the Men’s Tour in prize money terms to prove the point.

I tried to watch the Serena Williams match today – with her ass crack all wet from the sweat that must ooze from her body – what else could it be – and on show as purple on black – I can’t imagine any sales for her clothing mounting any fashion challenge …

This is a joke … some women’s sports are the equal of men – surfing, winter skiing, cricket, basketball and the like – but tennis and equal pay for equal work and conditions is a marketing exercise for Women’s sports clothing and fashion accessories and nothing to do with the quality of the tennis.

I am not sure you are on the right track. If the sponsors want to pay more to the ballboys or the ballgirls, that is their decision.
Its the mens perogative to ask for more money if your points are valid, whos to say if the women should have to pay up from their pool other than the people that put their money in the pool. The audience mix is what % and if its higher female than male and as a result sponsors get more for their buck then what they receive in prizemoney is irrelevant.
see 20/20 crcket pays versus 50 overs versus tests.
Poor old snoop poop you suffer from all sorts of judgement issues, why should i be surprised by you adding sexist to your list of misdemeanours.
Can’t wait for the football season (NRL) to see your latest round of bloopers. Maybe that could be a selling point on your opinion base ie 12 reasons why everything is different from my eyes……..snoop poop from the land of the blind! or snoop bloop of I once got it right only they disqualified me for not passing the sex test…..or was that a dope test….hang on I won that one….they said i was the biggest dope there!

You must have been three sheets to the wind when you slobbered this out …

Put an opinion out there wanker – you’re piss-fartin’ dithering about nothin’ – do you like watching women’s tennis when it is so lop-sided … all that grunting – reminds me when I was a root-rat … put a stick in you pencil and grow a pair – leave the tweasers plucking to those who at least have some hair where it matters …

Pragmatist – a person who is oriented toward the success or failure of a particular line of action, thought, etc.; a practical person. – a bloody ditherer …

And again – the third value calculation is valid … is measured by the amount of time the womans final winner spends on the court throughout the tournament as campared to the mens winner – not rocket science …

Yes Snoop poop, you are actually right, but the question was share of prizemoney. Not your concern or mine. Watch what you like, how the prize money is split should not concern you, do you want to comment on the worlds’ poverty or pension, centrelink, disability and its fairness.

PS The thought of you being a “root rat” frightens me. Is it because you dont like women that you root rats? or in turn if “rats” were playing tennis would you offer them more prizemoney. Alternatively you could play against the women, no doubt in your day you would have been able to beat them. ( I hope that doesnt open any old wounds…..no doubt you were an “A” grade tennis player who didnt have the same opportunities coming from the country….wonder if the rats had the same problem).

G’day Snoop Poop. Love your attitude. I watched Nadal v Berdych last night… now that is tennis. I have tried watching the Scharapovas and Azarenkas but cannot stand the testival of moaning & yelping & fake orgasms. Not only is it painful to listen to, it’s cheating. Yelling as you hit the ball is a tactic to stop your opponent hearing the ball come off the racquet and thus pick up clues as to spin etc. Let’s have a true OPEN tournament and in the interests of equality throw everyone in the pool – man and women together – first round losers get nothing $. That will give them something to moan about.

There are several facets. In the men’s draw who can stop Djokovic. In the women’s draw, each match is a real dilemma.

It has been great to see Federer at his awesome best. It was great to see Berdych really make Nadal dig deep. Can Murray take Djokovic to 4 or 5 sets, can the winner between Federer and Nadal make a classic final against Djokovic.

Prize money is a small part of the equation. The winner is the only one chasing the grand slam. and this year it is a golden grand slam, where the Olympics are added. Laver never had the chance to play at the Olympics. Thereafter is sponsorships. Sponsorship of the individual, tournament, and sport, which includes drawing patronage. To all of this David the pragmatist rightfully points out.

In ages past individuals were paid appearance money and they did show up for the appearance money, but not necessarily compete. There was much more invested in Wimbledon. The fact that this year we have the best, and they take it seriously is an accolade.

It costs all players equally to compete. To bring the coach, and team and house them and so on.

I say nothing is perfect, but the competition is there, what more can you ask for.

    Thanks Max,

As a first timer – welcome to the Snoop-Poop show –

Now this is the sort of comment bloggers die for … direct, appreciative and adding to the debate … but not too sure about the all in scenario … they tried that with Bilie Jean and Briggs and the woman won … we’d never live it down –

Like you I love the mute button when women play – but then it is just women chasing a yellow ball –

    come back anythine …

Well that is the womens final done – Sharapova led 2-0 in the first set then lost 6-1 6-0 and she gets a million smackers for that shallaking … the match lasted 82 minutes – and the winner gets $2 million smackers … have to be the most overpaid sports people in the world … nothing imaginative – just a slug fest between baseliners – Azarenka had the slice backhand which Sharapova showed is a weakness in her game –

The winner has ability no doubt and this might be the start of a stella career – but if the competition flops off like Sharapova did – again wh wants to watch one-sided matches …

And then there was the Mens Final – 353 minutes of captivating tennis – the 1st set went 80 minutes – just short of the Womans final …

    The Mens final score was: 5-7 6-4 6-2 6-7 7-5 …
    The Womens final: 6-3 6-0

In advertising time the Womens offered 6 advertising breaks – the Mens offered 27 advertising breaks with change of ends …

That means the Mens Final earned Channel 7 4.5 times the advertising revenues in a simplistic analegy …

The Mens winner gets $2 million and change and runner up $1 million and change – the same as the women –

There is no way Women deserve the same money the Men do – the reality in the equality of the sexes is that it is politics – and in that arena it is equal – one person one vote – but in some physical sports – women can dominate and be the equal of men i.e. Golf, Surfing, Gymnastics etc but in Tennis – never … it’s about time the Tennis Administrators started recognising that Women’s Tennis is not the draw card that Mens Tennis represents.

Well done to both WInners – the Mens Final has been heraled as the Greatest Gran Slam final ever played in the modern era – and those who stayed up to watch to the end – about 1:30am – can attest to the quality of that statement and the bragging rights of having see it all.
